The Coopman Team Interview: Spotlight on Consultant Eoin Hurley

Eoin has joined Coopman Search and Selection as a Consultant on the Risk and Compliance desk in Dublin. Get to know Eoin in this spotlight interview, discussing his reasons for joining Coopman, where he sees the Coopman brand in one year, his proudest achievement, and more.

1. Tell us about your career prior to Coopman.

My recruitment career began in the United States working within the higher-education/collegiate athletics space. Following this I moved into tech recruitment, and soon after this made the switch into the business and finance side where I have stayed since. Prior to Coopman, I worked at DraftKings, a digital sports entertainment and gaming company, where I worked across all corporate and trading roles. At the time I joined, DraftKings was only beginning to establish its presence in EMEA, so it was a great experience to be a part of building out that team and establishing the brand within the EMEA region.

2. Why did you want to join Coopman?

From the start I got a good feeling about the people, and the company. From my initial calls with both Andrew and Mark, I could tell that they were honest, driven, and passionate about recruitment. The long list of successes in the short history of the company was also something I knew I wanted to be a part of and help contribute to the growth and continuing success. As the process progressed and I met with other members of the team, I knew that this was a place I wanted to be to.

3. Where do you see the Coopman brand in one year?

I think the level of success we have had in the short history of the brand speaks for itself; And I think in one year as we continue to grow, and develop our relationships with clients and candidates alike, that we will be the top of people’s minds for recruitment services in the financial services space.

4. What has been your proudest achievement?

On a personal level, the 11 years I spent in the United States is a proud achievement for me. I moved by myself at 19 and after 11 years over there had got my bachelors degree, two masters degrees, and started my career. Moving to another country and experiencing another way of life is something not a lot of people get to do, so I’m proud I was able to do it and be successful over there.

On a professional level – Of course being offered a position with Coopman!

5. What is the best piece of advice you ever received?

“Listen more than you speak and create more than you consume”. Especially in our industry, I think this is very applicable. We are in the business of relationship building ad understanding the needs of our clients and candidates. But I think it is also good advice for life in general.

6. What business leader or company do you admire and why?

Not strictly a Business Leader, but I someone I admire, and I think you can draw a lot of wisdom from is John Wooden (former UCLA Basketball Coach). When you look at his success in coaching, and his leadership skills, a lot of it is down to the relationships he built with his teams, and the trust and respect they had for him. He wasn’t afraid to go against the norm and do things differently, which ultimately led to a lot of success.

7. What do you like to do in your spare time?

In my spare time you can probably find me cooking or barbequing, hanging out with my dog, or exploring new restaurants or coffee shops. I am also a huge fan of stand-up comedy, so if there is a gig on in Dublin, I’ll probably be there.
