The Coopman Team Interview: Spotlight on Associate Consultant Neil Hayden

Neil has joined Coopman Search and Selection as Associate Consultant on the Accounting and Finance desk in Dublin. Get to know Neil in this spotlight interview, discussing his reasons for joining Coopman, where he sees the Coopman brand in one year, his proudest achievement, and more.

1. Tell us about your career prior to Coopman.

Prior to starting my role as Associate Consultant, I worked as an intern in the tax department of an international professional services firm. Upon completing my Masters’ degree, I returned as a Tax Associate. This role gave me huge exposure to the Financial Services sector in Ireland as I primarily dealt with clients in asset management, aircraft leasing, insurance, banking and fintech. I received a very rounded understanding of the operations of these sectors. I gained an interest in the financial services sector through this and when deciding that a career in taxation was not for me, I was motivated to stay within financial services.

2. Why did you want to join Coopman?

I decided I wanted to pursue a career in recruitment and through much research I stumbled upon Coopman Search & Selection. What really stood out for me was their speciality and knowledge in the financial services sector. What also was very attractive initially was the growth and success Coopman had achieved in such a short space of time having only been established in 2019. It was exciting for me to potentially be apart of firm in its these exponential growth stages. After getting in contact and speaking with the team, I knew the company was going to be extremely supportive, engaging and most importantly – fun! I was delighted to receive an offer and the experience so far has been even better than expected.

3. Where do you see the Coopman brand in one year?

As a company that has already shown huge growth in a short period, I see the Coopman brand further expand and increasingly grow its unique services into the New York industry, already being in the early stages of this.

4. What has been your proudest achievement?

My proudest achievement was obtaining my Masters degree in Strategic Management and getting and also receiving an offer from Coopman 😊

5. What is the best piece of advice you ever received?

The best piece of advice I ever received was “it’s not about persistency it’s about consistency”.

6. What business leader or company do you admire and why?

A business leader I admire is Warren Buffet. Being a seasoned and strategic investor, potentially the most successful in my time, he has always stayed humble. He is known for living in the same house for years, he stays hungry for success even into his late 80’s, he always stays loyal to companies and he gives away the vast majority of his extensive wealth.

7. What do you like to do in your spare time?

I have a keen interest in sports and nutrition and during the warmer months you’ll find me golfing most weekends or watching Liverpool FC.
