Ground Truth: Navigating Parental Leave in Aircraft Leasing

Understanding the state of parental leave across aircraft leasing – In partnership with PropelHer

At Coopman, we believe data should drive change. That’s why, together with PropelHer, we conducted industry-wide research into how parental leave is experienced – and supported – across aircraft leasing.

Our findings bring together insights from 20 companies and 123 individuals, alongside reflections from our industry event held in Dublin in September 2025. The result is a clear picture of what’s working, where gaps remain, and what can be done to create more inclusive, competitive workplaces.

Key findings

  • Policies vary widely — from full pay top-ups to statutory minimums, with few companies offering equal paternity provision.

  • Culture counts — over half of respondents said company culture discourages men from taking full leave entitlements.

  • Return-to-work remains a challenge — 60% of individuals reported difficulty reintegrating after leave.

  • Bonus fairness matters — some parents still lose bonus eligibility while on leave.

  • Solutions are emerging — from structured return programmes to manager training and greater transparency.

“Parental leave isn’t just an HR issue — it’s about the kind of industry we want to build.”
– Christine Jones, Coopman

Why this matters

For an industry competing globally for talent, progressive and inclusive parental leave policies aren’t just good ethics – they’re good business. They improve retention, engagement, and employer brand strength.
