The Coopman Team Interview: Spotlight on Senior Consultant Cheryl Aust

Cheryl has joined Coopman Search and Selection as a Senior Consultant on the Accounting & Finance desk in London. Get to know Cheryl in this spotlight interview, discussing her reasons for joining Coopman, her career prior to Coopman, her proudest achievement, and more.

Tell us about your career prior to Coopman.

Before Coopman I’d been in the recruitment industry since 2012 with the last 6 years specialising in the London finance market across property, real estate and since 2021 within the buy side and alternatives market.

Why did you want to join Coopman?

Coopman’s approach to the market was what really resonated with me. I admired their vision for how recruitment should be and the teams commitment to always adding value. I also thought the B corp accreditation was interesting – commitments for sustainability, diversity & inclusion and making positive change is important to me and it’s important to the businesses we partner with, so it’s a win:win!

Where do you see the Coopman brand in one year?

In 1 year I see our London team being know for being a trusted source of consultative recruitment services across the traditional and alternatives space – it’s going to be a very exciting year!

What has been your proudest achievement?

Easy – for me it was my promotion in my previous firm. It was proof that my consultative approach worked for the senior finance market. It was very self-affirming and really levelled up everything from my career but also from a life perspective.

What is the best piece of advice you ever received?

Feedback is a gift and evidence is confidence.

What business leader or company do you admire and why?

Nicola Kilner – I think her story is incredible. She demonstrates that compassion is a great business skill, that women have a place at the C suite table and it is possible to have it all as a female with a family and life outside of career.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I’ve recently turned 30 so suddenly I’ve started running. I also have a husky at home so I’m often outdoors. And like most, I love my holidays so always looking to tick destinations off my bucket list.
